History and Importance of Sikh Religion
Sikhism is the fifth-largest religion in India and with over 27 million followers across the world. The ‘Sikh’ word in Punjabi refers to ‘disciple’. The foundation of religion was established by Guru Nanak Dev Ji after watching the evils, discrimination, casteism, and more in the surroundings. Sikh religion is a monotheistic religion that originated in the Punjab region across the Indian subcontinent in the late 15th century. The monotheistic religion means belief in one God and follows the specified worship patterns. It is also known as ‘Sikhi’ and ‘Sikhmat’. Sikhism believes that all people are equal before God and the holy book of the religion is Guru Granth Sahib. It is considered not only the religious scripture but also the last living Guru of Sikhism. In 1708, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of Sikhism, declared before his death that there would be no other Guru after him and the last Guru would be Guru Granth Sahib. It is considered as the Adi Granth and it consists of a collection of words, proverbs, couplets, and articles.
When we talk about the Sikhism gurus, there are ten main gurus of the religion who made the religion stronger. The list of ten Gurus are as follows – Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469-1539), Guru Angad (1469-1539), Guru Amardas (1552-1574), Guru Ramdas (1574-1581), Guru Arjun (1581-1606), Guru Hargobind (1606-1645), Guru Harrai (1645-1661), Guru Harkishan (1661-1664), Guru Tej Bahadur (1664-1675), and Guru Gobind Singh (1675-1708).

Lohri
There is special significance of Lohri festivals in Sikhism and it is celebrated a day before the Makar Sankranti. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in regions like Punjab, Haryana, and places around Delhi. In the Lohri evening, people light a fire and circumambulate around the fire. The members of the family sing & dance around the fire and offer sacrifices like peanuts, rewdi, kheel, corn grains, and others in the fire. After it, prasad is distributed among the members in the form of Gajjak, Revdi, and others. Baisakhi

Guru Nanak Jayanti
As per the Sikh Holidays 2024, the Kartik Purnima is the occasion of Shri Guru Nanak Ji’s birthday celebration and the Sikh community celebrates the day as Guru Nayak Jayanti. The founder of the Sikh religion is Guru Nanak Dev and he opposed casteism in the country. He was also against conservatism and superstition in the country. The system of langar was started by the guru in his time. It is meant for all rich, big, small, and poor people to sit together & enjoy the meal. He was the first guru of the religion and he gave the message of ‘Ik Onkar’, which means ‘God is One’.
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti
The tenth guru of the Sikh religion is Guru Gobind Singh Ji who was born in Sahib Bihar, Patna. He founded the Khalsa Panth which is considered one of the critical events in the Sikh religion. Guru Gobind Singh Ji declared Guru Granth Sahib as the Guru of Sikhs and he spent his entire life serving people and following the path of truth.
